Ah, the Christmas fanatic – the merrymaker who ushers in the holiday spirit the moment Halloween is over, indulges in mince pies from November 1st and brings a little festive cheer to every interaction year-round. It’s never too early to spread the Christmas spirit. Well, at least they think it’s not, and at QVB, we tend to agree.
As early as November, you’ll find plenty of yuletide joy in these walls — we’re decking halls, singing carols and serving up festive treats. If the Christmas fanatic in your life is jingling to get stuck into the season of celebration, look no further than the QVB. We’ve curated an itinerary to experience in centre that’s ideal for the holiday enthusiast: from photos in front of the grand Christmas tree to carol performances, a special history tour, and everything in between. Think of it as an early Christmas celebration, tailored just for them (and you). It’s all happening from November 8th, so here, we’re heading in on Sunday 10th to kick of the festive season early.
Sunday November 10 10:30am: Grab a coffee and a flaky croissant from Babette on Ground Floor — you’ll need to fuel up for the day ahead. Then take a wander around the spectacular tree that reaches from the Ground Floor all the way up to the centre dome. The QVB Christmas Tree was inspired by the Wollemi Pine — one of the world's oldest and rarest trees, found only in Australia — and designed by the talented artists at Boomalli Aboriginal Artists Co-operative, the longest-running Aboriginal-owned and run organisation to support artists from NSW.
11:20am: Find a spot near the tree on Level 2. At 11:30am, the Christmas Tree light and sound show begins, where the tree comes alive with a performance to showcase its very grandeur.
12pm: This season, the QVB’s renowned history tours will be sprinkled with some festive magic. The Christmas Edition of the QVB History Tour will take you through the iconic building for 45 minutes of festive-tinged storytelling and fact-finding. You can make a booking here. Add link
1pm: Feel like a song? At the grand piano on Level 1, a line-up of impressive choirs and performers will take the floor to spread the Christmas cheer. There’ll be all the classics and a few new-school hits. Singing along is encouraged.
1:30pm: All this holiday cheer is hungry work. Head to Manon Brasserie on Ground Floor and nab a table outside. Treat yourself to a light lunch — a salmon niçoise, perhaps, or a baguette lathered with butter, ham, cornichons and Gruyere cheese — and because you’re feeling festive, maybe a crisp glass of Chablis.
3:30pm: After a meander through the centre, it’s time to visit Santa. Or rather, catch a glimpse of the big man as he makes his way to high tea at the QVB’s iconic spot, The Tea Room.
4:30pm: End the day on a high at The Tea Room QVB for a High Tea with Santa. Indulge in delicate treats crafted by The Tea Room’s head chef, accompanied by tea and champagne. Don’t leave without a photo with the man of the hour. You can make a booking here. Add link
And if you’ve still got some Christmas enthusiasm left over, why not get a head start on your holiday gifting while you’re here too.
