The Hamptons in upstate New York is known for a few things: being the summer playground of the rich and famous, stately homes so large they could accommodate a small European village and the collision of old and new money that manifests as Rolls Royces in car parks and $30 bacon and egg bagels. There’s a particular aesthetic to the Hamptons: somewhere between coastal chic and Provincial charm, where neutral hues are accented with pastels and natural materials reign supreme. And when it comes to entertaining, it could be said that Hamptons locals (whether year round or just for the season) invented the term ‘host with the most’.

It was certainly the case when a group of stylish New Yorkers, who had flocked to the coastal enclave for their summer breaks, were invited by Dom Pérignon to an intimate backyard barbecue in celebration of two new releases. Guests like Camila Morrone, Naomi Watts and Rachel Zoe dined on 10-hour slow-cooked ribeye paired with generous lashings of chimichurri by Argentinian celebrity chef and author Francis Mallmann. Guests conversed while sipping champagne as Mallmann and his team attended to meat and vegetables swinging from an elaborate contraption over a fire pit. When it came time to eat, there were no lengthy menus or explanations, just plates of lovingly prepared food placed along tables. The affair was star-studded, sure, but the relaxed elegance of the occasion is what really sticks out — and it’s precisely the kind of entertaining inspiration we’re bringing into the season ahead.

When hosting alfresco, lean into playful glassware and mismatched crockery — it adds to the laid-back atmosphere. These forest green tumblers make great water glasses, and look even more delightful when mixed with amber and blue versions on the table.

Save your dining table from watermarks with the help of Gorman’s sweet floral coasters. Nodding to spring with their abstract daisy pattern, they’re the perfect pop of colour on a minimalistic tablescape.

It’s not a backyard barbecue without a beer or two. Orbitkey’s slick bottle opener is an essential tool. Scatter them on tables or near the drinks cooler so guests can always find them.

There may not be a more enjoyable way to beat the heat on a spring afternoon than with a jug of sweet and fruity iced tea. T2’s Mango Mint Cold Brew has notes of lemongrass, hibiscus and ginger, and tastes especially good enjoyed alfresco.

Forget stuffy plating and individual serves. Backyard barbecues are for salads and grilled vegetables generously piled onto platters and loaves of fresh bread for tearing and dipping. This organic-shaped platter from Portmeirion is just the ticket.
