Even the most avid foodie will admit that sometimes, it’s just too hot to cook dinner. When scorching days melt into warm nights, the prospect of turning on the oven or firing up the barbecue is less than appealing.
As we revel in the sunny and sweltering days of January, we’re capitalising on the opportunity to take a few sneaky shortcuts when it comes to dinner. Give the pots and pans a night (or two) off, and instead lean into some store-bought dinner solutions that mean less time over a stove, more time by the pool. Here, our favourite dinner shortcuts from the QVB made for summer nights.
A piece of fresh fish thrown on the barbecue and served alongside a salad of crunchy cucumbers, tomatoes, olives and feta is our idea of a perfect summer dinner. Little Fish Shoppe’s version lets you pick your own fish, and if you’re feeling indulgent, grab a bag of hot chips to go too.
Our favourite kind of poke bowl is the kind we don’t have to make ourselves. Sushi Hub’s version sees fresh salmon sashimi, edamame and a bunch of crunchy veg sit atop a bed of lettuce, with a sesame dressing to finish everything off.
Can’t decide between a handroll, sashimi or bento box? Indulge in all three courtesy of Sushi Sushi’s Deluxe Pack, which has pieces of nigiri, sashimi and mini rolls in one delicious set. Perfect for sharing — or tackling alone.
This is a salad for the healthfood-obsessed. Packed with high protein quinoa, nutrient-dense kale and tangy feta for creaminess, Top Juice’s salad makes a perfect light meal for dinner, or would be equally delicious topped with a soft boiled egg or store-bought barbecue chicken for something a little more substantial.
Packed with chickpeas, pumpkin, omega-seeds and hummus, this hearty and nutritious salad from Starbucks takes inspiration from the flavours of the Middle East.
